He may not be a Chelsea player any more, but there is still plenty of love for Michael Essien at Stamford Bridge. The Ghanaian was a firm favourite during his time at Chelsea, but toward the end of his spell at the club he had become largely a bit part player.

With that in mind he joined AC Milan in January and has been enjoying his spell in Italy as he approaches a year at the club.

But he has today become something of an internet sensation, after the web went mad for his reaction to being sent off against Udinese today.

He was shown his marching orders in the 71st minute of the game and it is clear to see that he was not impressed with the decision of match referee Paolo Valeri.

His reaction, which was a mixture of shock, bemusement and silently seething anger, has been doing the rounds on Twitter – with some saying it was a similar reaction most fans had to the news Gael Clichy, Roberto Soldado, Glen Johnson and Joe Cole all scored in the Premier League this season.

The former Chelsea man however was simply astonished that he was being shown his marching orders. Luckily it did not matter as two goals from Jeremy Menez earned a 2-0 win for Milan.
