When Celtic signed Luca Connell from Bolton Wanderers in 2019, they appeared to have beaten off a host of clubs to his signature.

The shaggy-haired had been a shining light in an otherwise dismal Trotters campaign, and with his contract winding down, he had interest from a number of clubs.

Celtic won the race, with many believing that he could grow to be Scott Brown’s successor in the heart of the Bhoys midfield for years to come.

Well, Brown is now leaving for Aberdeen, but Connell has still yet to make a single first-team appearance for Celtic, and has become something of a forgotten man.

Connell is out on loan at fourth-tier Queen’s Park right now, and he showed some of his quality this week with a superb goal.

The 19-year-old picked up the ball in midfield against Albion Rovers, drove forward and hammered home a long-range drive to help Queen’s Park to a comfortable 3-0 win.

Now, this was obviously in a much lower league than where Celtic are competing, but Connell is at least showing the Bhoys what he can do.

Maybe Celtic’s next manager will come in and take a liking to Connell, and with two years left on his deal, he needs to start making progress sooner rather than later.
