HITC Sport is taking a look back at some of Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers’ most impressive wins over Celtic from recent times.

As Rangers prepare to take on Celtic for the final time this season, HITC Sport is taking a look back at five of the Gers’ most incredible wins over their Old Firm foes from the last 25 years…

Rangers 2-1 Celtic (March 2011)

Rangers secured the Scottish League Cup crown with a dramatic victory over the Hoops at Hampden Park. Steven Davis’ opener was swiftly cancelled out by a Joe Ledley equaliser, meaning that extra-time was required. The Gers would be the ones to find the winner as Nikica Jelavic scored during the first-half of the additional period.

Celtic 0-1 Rangers (November 1996)

It may have had just one goal but the Old Firm meeting at Parkhead in November 1996 seemed to have everything, including incredible missed chances and a penalty miss from both sides. Brian Laudrup would settle the game with an early goal and Rangers would go on to win their ninth league title in a row.

Rangers 5-1 Celtic (November 2000)

After being beaten 6-2 in the previous meeting, Rangers got the perfect revenge on their bitter rivals, claiming a similarly emphatic win at Ibrox. The game was level at 1-1 at one stage during the second-half, but goals from Tore Andre Flo, Ronald De Boer, Lorenzo Amoruso and Michael Mols followed Barry Ferguson’s opener to hand the Gers the brilliant win.

Rangers 3-2 Celtic (May 2002)

There may only be one better feeling for Rangers fans than beating Celtic comfortably, and that is winning a cup final with a last minute winner. That is exactly what the Light Blues did in the 2002 Scottish Cup final with Peter Lovenkrands scoring in stoppage-time to lead Rangers to a 3-2 win at Hampden Park.

Celtic 0-3 Rangers (May 1999)

Rangers would clinch the 1998/99 Scottish Premiership trophy with a 3-0 win at Parkhead. A Neil McCann brace as well as a Jorg Albertz penalty saw the Gers win the league in their rivals’ backyard. It may have been an ugly game – three players were sent off and the referee was struck by an object thrown from the crowd – but it will certainly be remembered fondly by all Rangers supporters.
