HITC Sport is taking a look back at some of Celtic’s most impressive wins over Glasgow Rangers from recent times.
As Celtic prepare to take on Rangers for the final time this season, HITC Sport is taking a look back at five of the Hoops’ most incredible wins over their Old Firm foes from the last 20 years…
Celtic 2-0 Rangers (March 2009)
Celtic claimed the first trophy of the 2008/09 season as they beat Rangers 2-0 in the final of the Scottish League Cup. Despite the comfortable scoreline, the Hoops needed extra-time to get the better of their rivals, with a header from Darren O’Dea and a penalty from Aiden McGeady helping Gordon Strachan’s men secure the silverware.

Celtic 2-0 Rangers (February 2015)
Celtic would book their place in the 2015 League Cup final with an impressive and professional performance against the Gers at Hampden Park. It was the first meeting between the pair for a number of years – though many Celtic fans will argue that it was the first ever meeting between the two – and the Championship side did not get a look in as Leigh Griffiths and Kris Commons handed the Bhoys the comfortable win.
Celtic 5-1 Rangers (September 2016)
Following Rangers’ promotion last season, there was a huge amount of intrigue regarding how Mark Warburton’s men would get on in the first Old Firm meeting of the season. It did not take long for the gulf between the two to become clear as a Moussa Dembele hat-trick as well as goals from Scott Sinclair and Stuart Armstrong led to a 5-1 win.

Celtic 5-1 Rangers (November 1998)
Braces from Lubomir Moravcik and Henrik Larsson as well as a fifth from Mark Burchill late on saw the Hoops claim a stunning win at Parkhead against their rivals. It may not have been enough to help them win the title, but it certainly gave the fans something extremely positive to reflect upon.
Celtic 6-2 Rangers (August 2000)
Celtic would strike the first blow in the title race with a stunning 6-2 victory at Parkhead in Martin O’Neill’s first Old Firm game as Hoops boss. Braces from Henrik Larsson and Chris Sutton as well as early goals from Paul Lambert and Stiliyan Petrov left Rangers stunned. Celtic would clinch the title by 15 points that season.
