Everton’s dismal run of form under Marco Silva continued on Saturday night – and it’s fair to say that Richarlison came close to embarrassing himself at Vicarage Road.

The Toffees were desperate for a positive result after defeats to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City, but Silva’s first return to Vicarage Road didn’t end well.

Hornets fans wanted to see Silva lose after his acrimonious exit from Watford just over a year ago, and his subsequent move to Everton. They got exactly what they wanted.

In the second half, some neat interplay around the box saw Will Hughes break in down the right, and he crossed for Andre Gray to tap home for a 1-0 win.

Everton’s day got even worse after the final whistle, as Kurt Zouma was sent off for continuing to argue with referee Lee Probert at the end of the match.

Everton’s torrid form shows little sign of ending, and as Silva had to deal with losing in front of the baying Watford fans, Richarlison was in a similar boat.

The Brazilian forward left Watford for Everton last summer and was also making his first return to Vicarage Road, but endured a difficult afternoon before being substituted for Bernard on 66 minutes.

Before the game had even begun, Richarlison suffered a minor mishap; Watford cameras caught the forward arriving at Vicarage Road, and he headed towards the Watford dressing room before realising his mistake and heading for Everton’s instead.

Having spent last season with Watford, his familiarity with the surroundings clearly kicked in, and he was left somewhat red-faced as he realised his error.
