Everton striker Bassala Sambou is playing for his future.

Everton’s first team may not have had a fixture this past weekend, but their Under-23’s were in action on Monday night.
David Unsworth’s side took on their Blackburn Rovers counterparts at Southport’s Haig Avenue, and ran out comfortable winners.
Two first half goals did the damage for Everton, as strikers Bassala Sambou and Fraser Hornby struck to give the Toffees a 2-0 win.
That result leaves Everton Under-23’s four points clear at the top of Premier League 2, and are closing in on the title with just five games to play.
Sambou’s goal was an absolute screamer, smashing the ball high into the top corner from the edge of the box, setting Everton on their way to victory.
It’s particularly important for Sambou to make an impact, as he is out of contract this summer and could be heading for the Everton exit.
The 21-year-old joined Everton from Coventry in 2016, and whilst he was tipped for a bright future, he has yet to make a first-team breakthrough despite being compared to Danny Welbeck by Unsworth when speaking to the Liverpool Echo in April 2017.
Blackburn Rovers wanted Sambou last year according to The Sun, and with a new Everton deal possibly unlikely as Sambou is now 21, the Championship club – managed by Sambou’s former Coventry boss Tony Mowbray – may well be interested again.
After his superb goal on Monday, Sambou may hope to have given himself a shot at another deal, but time appears to be running out for the young German at Goodison Park.
