Everton picked up a fine win on Friday night, beating Burnley 2-0 – and their alleged striker target Borja Iglesias had a superb weekend himself.

Espanyol hosted Atletico Madrid on Saturday afternoon as La Liga inches towards the end of the season, and they produced a stunning display.

Diego Godin today announced his exit from Atletico, but Saturday’s game didn’t go well for him, as his own goal opened the scoring for Espanyol.

Iglesias then made a fine run in behind the Atletico defence, took the ball wide of Jan Oblak before firing into the net for 2-0.

Iglesias added the third in the dying embers of the game, stepping up from the penalty spot after a foul by Juanfran on Javi Puado.

26-year-old target man Iglesias showed his composure with both goals as well as a decent turn of pace for his first, and Everton will have been very interested in his display.

El Desmarque reported just days ago that Everton want Iglesias this summer, and are prepared to quadruple his wages in order to bring him to Goodison Park, and he dazzled in his first game since that report emerged.

Saturday’s display against a Champions League regular in Atletico will have been very interesting to the Toffees, with Marcel Brands attempting to bring a new centre forward to the club this summer.
