Manchester United fans give their verdict on their club’s all time leading goalscorer, Wayne Rooney.
After taking a while to adjust at the beginning of the season, Manchester United really look to have kicked into gear under new boss, Jose Mourinho. The former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss was a popular choice amongst many Manchester United fans, after plenty fell out of love with former boss, Louis van Gaal.
Mourinho seems to have gotten United back playing how many remember them under Sir Alex Ferguson. Fast, attacking, and able to grind out a win in even the toughest games. Mourinho has also managed to attract world class players to the club once again, bringing in the likes of Henrik Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba over the summer.
But one star remains; a stalwart from Ferguson, to Moyes, to van Gaal, to Mourinho, and that’s Wayne Rooney. Now the club’s all time leading goalscorer, after breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s record, how does Wayne Rooney line up against the Manchester United greats? Should Rooney get a statue, like so many famous players of clubs?

“Yes, alongside Eric Cantona!” said one Manchester United fan. “He’s played for Manchester United for over ten years, he’s scored 250 goals, he’s done it for England as well, he’s a quality player.”
Another fan answered “Absolutely, he’s run his legs off since he’s started for us.”
Two other United fans though said “No, not yet. He’s still playing, he’s still alive, he’s a legend but I think he needs to have sort of moved on. So my answer is, in time.”
A man who has always split opinions amongst Manchester United fans, it looks like Wayne Rooney will continue to do this even into his retirement.
