The luck clearly wasn’t with Diego Carlos when he stepped foot onto the Aston Villa turf for his first home game because it resulted in him suffering a long-term injury.
A ruptured Achillies has more than likely ruled out the 29-year-old for most of this season, but Aston Villa’s big-money signing is making sure he fights back with everything he has got, so he can possibly make a quicker return.
The hard-hitting defender posted an uplifting message and video on Instagram of him hard at work and doing various bits of training from weights to other strength and conditioning work.
Carlos included a message with the video which read: “May my courage be greater than my fear, and my strength as great as my faith @avfcofficial.”
WILL GERRARD STILL BE AT VILLA BY THE TIME CARLOS RETURNS?
Steven Gerrard tried to make a statement when he signed Carlos, for one, he came to replace Tyrone Mings in the XI after he was stripped of the captain’s armband, and then he joined to try and take the club to the next level.
Now, none of those things have been able to happen because of the former Sevilla man’s injury, but with pressure on Gerrard before Carlos’ arrival, and it is still prominent now, will the legendary midfielder still be in the B6 dugout by the time his star signing returns?
Well, he’s not been helped by the fact that another summer signing, Boubacar Kamara, is also now facing a spell on the sidelines after going off injured during Villa’s 1-0 win against Southampton last time out.

But, last season, when Dean Smith spent big after Jack Grealish’s departure, he wasn’t afforded much time to gel his new signings in, nor was he given any sympathy for losing such a key player.
So, surely the same methods will be applied to Gerrard by those at the top if the same lacklustre performances and abject results continue?
Either way, Gerrard is now relying on a good chunk of his players from last season that struggled to push the team up the table, and it’s not going to be an easy task.
