Lyon playmaker Yoann Gourcuff scored a sensational 50 yard volley on Thursday night – only to see it ruled out.
In Lyon’s Europa League tie with Real Betis, midfield maestro Gourcuff – recently a target of Arsenal – struck a volley from the half way line, which swerved and looped over the goalkeeper’s head and into the back of the net – only to see the goal disallowed as striker Bafetimbi Gomis had committed a foul.
There is a very real possibility that Gourcuff’s strike is the best non-goal of all time, though he may have to fight with Southampton striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo for that honour, after the striker scored this incredible bicycle kick whilst playing for Roma. These images from Bleacher Report capture Gourcuff’s goal superbly.
