The Celtic striker raised a smile from teammate Scott Brown after being hassled by members of the public assumed to be Rangers fans.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths brilliantly put down a Rangers fan who taunted him at Glasgow Airport en route to the Bhoys Champions League qualifier against Rosenborg – bringing a smile to Scott Brown’s face in the process.

Griffiths, who returned to training on Tuesday in time for tomorrow night’s crunch match, appeared to be getting hassled ahead of his team’s flight to Norway.

But he quickly put a stop to the taunting, telling his aggressor in footage shot by football writer Ronnie Esplin: “Your club’s dead mate, beat it,” in relation to Rangers’ 2012 liquidation.

Griffiths’ teammate Brown struggled to keep a straight face, before proceeding to have his picture taken with a young fan.

The 26-year-old missed last week’s first leg draw at Celtic Park through suspension, but could return to Brendan Rodgers’ starting lineup in Trondheim, if the Ulsterman deems him fit enough.

Last season’s top scorer Moussa Dembele also missed out last time, after being ruled out until September, with midfielder Tom Rogic deployed in an unfamiliar striking role.

Celtic need only a score draw to progress to the final round of Champions League qualifying, while Rangers, in contrast, were knocked out of the Europa League at the first round stage last month.

Can Rangers close the gap on Celtic this season?
