Celtic-owned Andrew Gutman scored for Charlotte Independence this weekend.
Celtic were busy in the January transfer window, and Brendan Rodgers brought in a few players before loaning them back out.
The Bhoys took a long-term approach by signing Ukrainian winger Maryan Shved before sending him back to Karpaty Lviv, whilst Manny Perez was signed and loaned to North Carolina FC.
Perez wasn’t the only American full back to join Celtic, as Andrew Gutman also made the move to Parkhead just weeks after spending time on trial with Rangers.
The left back had impressed in the US collegiate system with Indiana University, and earned a reputation as an attack-minded left back.
Gutman is one for the future for Celtic, and after having a loan move to Nashville SC curiously blocked, he joined up with Charlotte Independence on loan.
Gutman made his debut for Charlotte over the weekend in a 3-2 home defeat to Indy Eleven, but the 22-year-old summed up why he was wanted by Celtic.
The left back made a trademark run to the back post to head home a deep cross, getting on the scoresheet for the first time with Charlotte in the USL Championship as the video below captured.
Rodgers’ exit from Celtic may have left a sour taste, but with Gutman showing his potential in America, Rodgers may have ensured that the Bhoys have an exciting, dangerous young left back to work with for years to come.
