Midfielder Carles Alena showed shades of the Argentine with a superb dribble and finish for the Barcelona Under-19 side in the UEFA Youth League.
Remember the name Carles Alena – it could be one being sung loud and clear from around the Nou Camp in years to come after the midfielder netted an incredible solo goal that had more than a little of the Lionel Messis about it.
The 17-year-old netted his memorable solo effort during a UEFA Youth League clash with AS Roma that was eventful to say the least.
A busy game that featured no fewer than six goals, ending 3-3 with Barca down to 10 men, despite the many memorable moments on offer, the undoubted highlight came courtesy of Alena.
Bearing down on the Giallorossi goal, the 17-year-old got the better of four Roma players before slotting past goalkeeper Ionut Alin Pop with the kind of finish that Messi has almost made a trademark.
It was a goal that also completed a memorable brace for Alena, who has now bagged five goals in the UEFA Youth League.
Barca may have ultimately let a 3-0 lead slip to draw with their Italian opponents, but fans may be talking about this goal, and Alena, for years to come after this.
