With Aston Villa’s latest defeat to Newcastle compounding a miserable 2017, could Steve Bruce be the next manager to lose his job?
6 points away from the Championship drop zone after spending more money than anyone else in the division this season: things are not looking good at Villa Park. As if relegation from the Premier League wasn’t enough, Aston Villa fans have had to put up with some rotten football this season, and now look more likely to be fighting against relegation for a second year rather than fighting for promotion.
Quite what’s gone wrong at Villa Park is difficult to put a finger on. Things looked to be improving under Steve Bruce, after the former Hull City and Birmingham manager replaced Robert Di Matteo. But after not winning a game since Boxing Day, the Villans have plummeted towards the bottom of the league, leaving their fans shocked and disappointed; especially after bringing in so many top quality players.
So does the buck stop with Bruce? Should he face the sack? Or do Villa need to stick with him in this time of uncertainty? HITC Sport went to ask Aston Villa fans for their thoughts…

Asked whether Steve Bruce was the right man for the job, one fan replied “He might be, eventually.” Another fan said “No, he’s a terrible man for the job, absolute rubbish. He’s got no sense of direction. Doesn’t know how to make changes.”
Another fan said “He wasn’t my first choice. 2017 hasn’t been his year so far but hopefully times will change.”
One other Aston Villa supporter stated “He is definitely the right man for the job and he’s going to sort it out”, an opinion that appears to be in the minority at Villa Park at the moment. However, there were plenty of Villa fans who simply felt that all the chopping and changing that’s gone on over the last few years has been no good for the club, and that the Villans now need some stability.
