Imagine Messi in front of the Gwladys Street, but the stipulation is Liverpool win the Premier League. Would Everton fans take the deal?
After an extremely disappointing season under Roberto Martinez, and after a summer of big spending, Ronald Koeman is finally starting to turn Everton around this season with a recent 4-0 drubbing of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City underlining the progress. The Blues, who should really be pushing for a European place of some kind, now sit in seventh, 7 points off sixth.
But what if Everton could potentially kick their season into gear with just one transfer?
HITC Sport had a bit of fun with Everton fans, asking them if they would take Lionel Messi, if it meant Liverpool winning the Premier League.
Everton fans outside the stadium before the match
“No, not for me” confidently answered one Everton fan, who mentioned that he was “not really a fan of Messi” and all the “tika taka football.”
“Nope, not happening” replied another Toffees supporter, who clearly hated the thought of Liverpool winning the league. However, his friend, who took a bit longer to give his answer, said he’d “take Messi all day long” because Everton would “win the Champions League with Messi.” His mate didn’t seem to sure about this though, reminding him that the Blues “would have to get their first.”
It seems that, all in all, having the best player in the world wouldn’t be enough to put to one side Everton’s rivalry with Liverpool, no matter how good Barcelona’s magician might be!
