The former Newcastle United manager has been promoted to the Premier League with Brighton and Hove Albion.

The last time Newcastle United were relegated to the Championship, back in 2009, the club enjoyed an excellent comeback season under the then manager Chris Hughton. Despite romping the Championship in classy fashion, Hughton was let go by Newcastle United in December 2010, and replaced with Alan Pardew. A well liked character who was perceived to be out of his depth in the Premier League, many Newcastle United fans felt the manager left too soon.

And after a spell at Norwich City, Chris Hughton is now enjoyed huge success at Brighton and Hove Albion. After being given the time to build a squad and a system by the Brighton owners, Hughton has now managed to get the Seagulls promoted to the Premier League for the first time in the club’s history.

So, are Newcastle United fans happy for their former boss? HITC Sport travelled to meet Magpies supporters to find out their views and opinions…

“Shocking, shocking decision” said one Newcastle United fan, when asked for his opinions on Hughton’s sacking back in 2010. “It should never have happened.” Another Newcastle United fan said “I don’t think he got a fair deal here. I think he’s a good manager.”

One Newcastle supporter said “I absolutely loved Chris Hughton, I hope they [Brighton] win the league to be fair” whereas another Magpies fan said “I was upset when Chris got the sack. I thought he’d done well at Newcastle.”

Sentiment was certainly high for their former manager, which isn’t normally the case at St James Park. The club have had to sit through the likes of Alan Pardew, John Carver and Steve McClaren since Chris Hughton’s departure, so who can blame them for pining for the Brighton manager a bit?

Another Newcastle United fan added “he was brilliant here until Mike Ashley sacked him for no reason at all. I think he’s done a great job for Brighton.” Fans will certainly be looking forward to playing Brighton and Hove Albion again next season in the Premier League.
