According to Sky Germany, the representatives of Liverpool and Newcastle target Antonio Rudiger have now held talks with Barcelona in Spain.

What’s the story?

Well, there has been a twist in the tale, one which Chelsea won’t like.

The Blues are currently unable to negotiate new contracts with their players, after Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government.

Therefore, with Rudiger’s deal expiring in June, others are clearly making moves to lure him away from Thomas Tuchel and Stamford Bridge.

It was the Daily Mail who revealed that Newcastle want to sign the Germany international, while Eurosport claimed Liverpool are keen.

Now, however, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenburg has posted footage of Rudiger’s agent Sahr Senesie meeting Barcelona’s Director of Football Mateu Alemany, and Sporting Advisor Jordi Cruyff.

Barcelona will pose real threat in Antonio Rudiger battle

In our view, Liverpool and Newcastle should be nervous about the fact Barcelona are now involved in this transfer saga.

Xavi has already convinced Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen to come to the Camp Nou, where the likes of Gavi, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong are already impressing (BBC).

There is an exciting project taking place at Barcelona, one which could tempt Rudiger – who cost Chelsea £29m – into ignoring Liverpool and Newcastle.

The fact Christensen – Rudiger’s teammate at Chelsea – has already agreed to join could also be a decisive factor.

It goes without saying that the pair have impressed alongside each other in west London, so they may fancy the opportunity to do the same at Barcelona.

Keep an eye on this saga, as there’s still a long way to go until a decision is made.
