Wesley Moraes has been spotted back on the training field as he nears his return from a gruesome knee injury for Aston Villa.

The Brazil international – who cost £22 million from Club Brugge – suffered cruciate ligament damage in a 2-1 win over Burnley back on January 1st.

Wesley actually scored in that game at Turf Moor, although the severity of his injury meant that it was the last time he featured for the Villans.

It has nearly been a year since the unfortunate incident, but it now looks as if the 24-year-old is making good progress.

You can see a clip of the Juiz de Fora-born striker with the Villa fitness coaches, posted by the club’s official Twitter account, below.

Even when Wesley is ready to engage in full contact, first-team training again, patience must be afforded to the £35,000-a-week forward.

It will take time for the striker to build up his match fitness by playing Under-23 games, as he will be required to strengthen his knee sufficiently before jumping back into the rigours of the Premier League.

Even when he is fully fit, Wesley has a job on his hands to win his place back in Dean Smith’s side.

Since the Brazilian suffered his injury, the Villans have spent £28 million to sign Ollie Watkins, who has done superbly with eight goals in all competitions so far.
