Crystal Palace are cooking in pre-season ahead of their Premier League opener against Arsenal on Friday night and Eberechi Eze proved why over the weekend.
Patrick Vieira’s side beat Montpellier 4-2 at Selhurst Park, with Eze and Wilfried Zaha combing for an outstanding goal to send a message to Arsenal that they are ready for them.
As a bouncing ball was played to Eze, with his back to the opponent’s half, the £16 million man (Sky Sports) flicked the ball up, over the opposition player’s head, then drove into space, before picking out a well-weighted pass for Zaha who did the rest and scored, as Palace posted on their Instagram.
There has been a lot of noise coming from the Arsenal camp regarding how well they have been performing in pre-season, including the outstanding form of summer signing, Gabriel Jesus.
But they need to be wary of Vieira’s men, who after a progressive season last time out, especially from a style of play point of view, will want to take more points off the Gunners.
Nonetheless, here is footage of Eze embarrassing players in pre-season, added with another Zaha goal.
PALACE’S TROUBLESOME ATTACK
Palace took four points off Arsenal last season and their forward line was a big reason behind them having the upper hand over their London rivals.
Refreshed for the new season ahead, it will be interesting to see what Vieira and Co. will be aiming for because this group of players are more than capable of a top ten finish.
There will be moments where they will concede a few too many or frustrate fans because they aren’t consistent enough, but it’s all part of the young and ever-improving squad that is being built.
One thing is for sure, with players like Zaha, Eze and Michael Olise, that flair, speed, one-touch football, quick-thinking, skill and explosive nature will cause a number of upsets this season.
Will Arsenal, who after winning every game in pre-season, fall victim on the opening night of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign? Well, don’t bet against it not happening.
