Marcel Brands and Marco Silva are set to team up at Everton.
Everton manager Marco Silva and director of football Marcel Brands will be hoping to improve The Toffees’ transfer policy after a disappointing summer last time around – and two reported moves could be a sign of things to come.
The Toffees brought in a number of players that have since flopped last summer, the likes of Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez and Michael Keane failing to prove their transfer fees.
It has seen Everton replace Steve Walsh in the director of football position with Brands, who joins from PSV Eindhoven. Left-back, centre-back, wingers and a striker are expected to be areas requiring improvement.
It has been reported this week that Everton could look to offload experience defender Ashley Williams, with the Daily Mirror claiming the 33-year-old powerhouse is allowed to leave with Silva willing to listen to offers.
Despite wearing the captain’s armband last season at times, Williams struggled for Everton and will now be allowed to leave the club as Silva and Brands look to put their stamp on The Toffees’ squad.
With Williams likely to leave, Turkish Football have claimed that Everton have enquired about Besiktas central defender Domagoj Vida – who is currently at the World Cup with Croatia.
Vida, 29, only joined Besiktas in January, but is now said to interesting The Toffees. He is said to be on a £50,000 a week contract with the Champions League outfit.
The former Dynamo Kiev defender boasts European experience and a big reputation on the international stage for his aerial prowess and power, and would certainly be a massive improvement on the deteriorating Williams.
The former Swansea defender looked shaky on the ball and has lost a huge degree of speed. Adding Vida and selling Williams would be an excellent start to Silva and Brands’ reign at Everton.
