Tottenham Hotspur notched a valuable win, beating QPR 2-1 at Loftus Road this afternoon.
After Tottenham beat Swansea City 3-2 on Wednesday night, Mauricio Pochettino’s men followed that up with a vital 2-1 victory over QPR this afternoon.
This was Tottenham’s game in hand, so grabbing all three points was paramount for Pochettino – and fortunately, he had Harry Kane to call upon yet again.
Kane bagged the opener with a first half header, beating Rob Green to a cross to turn the ball into the empty net; shortly after Charlie Austin had rattled the woodwork for QPR.
After a host of chances, Tottenham finally made it 2-0 in the 68th minute thanks to Kane again, who ran on to a Ryan Mason pass, rounded Green and tapped the ball home.
However, a tense finale was set up as ex-Spurs star Sandro came back to haunt his former employers, placing the ball into the net from the edge of the box.
QPR should have been given a penalty late on for a Nabil Bentaleb handball, but Spurs managed to hang on and claim all three points – meaning they now lie just three points off a top four place.
For QPR, they remain three points adrift of safety, with seven defeats from the last eight games as things get desperate for Chris Ramsey’s men.
