Victoria Mboko has rapidly become one of the biggest rising stars on the WTA Tour, as showcased at the Qatar Open.
Mboko made it all the way to the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Doha, but lost out to Karolina Muchova.
The 19-year-old lost 6-4, 7-5 to her more experienced opponent, after knocking out formidable foes like Mirra Andreeva, Jelena Ostapenko and Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina.
Mboko has since decided to withdraw from the Dubai Tennis Championships, citing a right elbow injury as the reason.
Still, she’s made huge strides very quickly on the WTA Tour, and has just broken into the Top 10 for the very first time.

There, she was tasked with naming her favorite surface, which she said was hard court, while she also named the US Open as her favorite tournament.

Victoria Mboko continues to impress after breakthrough 2025 season
Mboko’s big breakthrough on the WTA Tour arrived last year, with her stunning season involving 1000 success on home soil.
She went all the way in Montreal, defeating Rybakina and Coco Gauff before a final win over Naomi Osaka.
Mboko was remarkably an 18-year-old wildcard at the event, with the WTA 250 Hong Kong title clinched by the Canadian later in 2025.
Despite her youth, the 19-year-old would have been one of the main players to avoid in Dubai this week, meaning the rest of the field can breathe a sigh of relief after her withdrawal.
