The Tottenham Hotspur man is becoming a hugely popular figure in North London.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has told Four Four Two that he was a big fan of Manchester United legend Roy Keane.
The Kenyan joined Tottenham in the summer for £15 million and his combative displays are making him a big fan favourite among Spurs fans.
The former Celtic man has now claimed that Keane was among his influences at an earlier age, though says he would not be intimidated by the notorious Irishman.
“I used to watch Manchester United and I really liked Roy Keane,” he told Four Four Two. “He was a really good player. I liked his character as well as his football ability.
“I’ve never met him, but I don’t think I’d be intimidated. The way he commands his team gives you that energy to work hard. If I can get to his level, that would be great.”
Keane established himself as one of the toughest midfielders in the Premier League during a 12-year stint with United which ended in 2005, and Wanyama’s claim sums up the fearlessness which Tottenham fans have seen almost every week since August.
His attitude and hunger to win were arguably his biggest qualities, and Tottenham fans might recognise similar characteristics in the 25-year-old.
The £15 million spent on bringing him to the Lilywhites from Southampton is looking more and more like a bargain with each time that he plays for Spurs.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are second in the Premier League table, one point behind Manchester City after beating them 2-0 at White Hart Lane eight days ago.
Wanyama was outstanding that day and if he continues to be then Tottenham have a genuine shot at winning the title this season.
