Victor Wanyama’s brilliant cameo performance for Tottenham Hotspur last night has gone under the radar, but Mauricio Pochettino must be secretly delighted with the Kenyan’s showing.

Wanyama has endured a hugely difficult period at Tottenham of late, with injuries crippling him.

The 27-year-old has barely been able to feature of late, but for 15 minutes last night he was absolutely superb.

Wanyama was introduced to Tottenham’s game with Manchester City just after his side had taken the lead, and he protected his defence expertly.

Wanyama showed his power to break up multiple City attacks, as Tottenham held on to claim a massively important 1-0 victory at White Hart Lane.

If the £11 million signing (BBC Sport) is getting back to his best then it can only be seen as a major boost for Spurs.

When he was fully fit, the former Southampton midfielder was one of the finest defensive midfielders in the Premier League.

And if last night’s cameo proved that Wanyama is ready to start for Tottenham again, then that is hugely exciting news for Pochettino’s side.
