Former Celtic and Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama was answering questions during a Tottenham Hotspur Q&A.

In a Twitter Q&A for Tottenham Hotspur, combative midfielder Victor Wanyama answered a range of questions, including one querying who has been his best midfield partner throughout the duration of his career.
Wanyama has played for Beerschot, Celtic, Southampton and Tottenham over the course of an 8 year career to date, as well as representing Kenya at international level. He is the most expensive player ever sold by a Scottish club, overtaking Aiden McGeady when he joined Southampton for £12.5 million in 2013.
The 25-year-old is also the first Kenyan to have played in the Premier League, and many were surprised to see him join Spurs so cheaply in the summer, for a fee of just £11 million, given his performances in a high achieving Southampton team over the course of 3 years at St Mary’s.
Talking to Tottenham’s official Twitter account, Wanyama fielded questions on issues such as his relationship with manager Mauricio Pochettino, settling in at Spurs and the best central midfielder he has ever played alongside.
Wanyama claimed current teammate Moussa Dembele was the best midfield partner he has ever had, describing the Belgian as “unbelievable”. Wanyama and Dembele have actually had quite similar careers, given both started life at the now defunct Beerschot AC in Belgium, before making a move to the Premier League and ultimately Tottenham.
The duo never played together in Belgium though, with Dembele 4 years Wanyama’s senior, but the Kenyan has clearly been impressed with his Tottenham teammate after just a few months at White Hart Lane.
The tough tackling midfielder opted for Dembele over a number of other credible candidates, having played with the likes of Scott Brown and Kris Commons in their prime at Celtic Park as well as Morgan Schneiderlin and Adam Lallana at Southampton.
Wanyama was also asked how big an impact Mauricio Pochettino has had on his career, to which he unsurprisingly replied that the Argentinian has had a “big impact” on his career, as the man who brought him to the Premier League at Southampton and then to a Champions League club at Spurs.
He described Pochettino as a “father figure”, and said that he felt he had grown as a player under his stewardship, claiming that he had a learnt a lot from the Tottenham boss.

During the Twitter Q&A, Wanyama also revealed the slightly unusual initiation song that he did upon signing for the North Londoners, namely ‘Last Night’ by P. Diddy, featuring Keyshia Cole, which was released in 2007 and peaked at number 14 in the UK charts.
When asked if he felt he had settled in well as Spurs, Wanyama told the club’s Twitter followers that it had been ‘easier’ to settle in at his new club, describing the setup as “like a family” where “everyone is trying to help everyone”.
The midfielder has featured in 15 of Tottenham’s 17 fixtures so far this season, scoring one goal and receiving 4 yellow cards. Spurs remain unbeaten in the Premier League, but have dropped to 5th, without a win in their last 4 games. Harry Kane’s return to the starting XI should provide a massive boost though to Wanyama and his teammates.
