The Kenyan has become a pivotal member of the Spurs first-team.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has spoken about his transfer to Spurs this summer, and his special relationship with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The Kenyan is currently on international duty with the Harambee Stars, helping his nation to a 1-0 win over Mozambique yesterday. He took time to speak to the press as well yesterday. Speaking to All Africa he explained how his move to Spurs came about – explaining how the Argentine is like a father figure to him:

“I knew there was interest from all over after the end of last season. So I came home for my holidays and the papers kept saying oh, he is going to Arsenal, next day it was Liverpool, and I struggled to just concentrate on having a rest.

“Then one Friday morning Pochettino called me and said something like ‘I want you here’. I didn’t need any convincing because he is like a father figure to me.

“He has helped me improve in several aspects of play and in general as a human being.”

The Spurs boss had already signed him once, bringing him in from Celtic in 2013, and Wanyama was clearly very keen on working with him yet again.

It is a measure of the esteem in which Pochettino is held by many of his players that Wanyama explains how he not only helps him develop as a footballer, but as a human being.

Considering the price that Spurs paid and the level of performance Wanyama has put in many might consider the Kenyan the best signing of the summer in the Premier League at present.

Hopefully he can help Tottenham back to winning ways soon.
