Victor Wanyama has wished Toby Alderweireld ‘all the best’ on his Instagram story after he departed Tottenham on Tuesday.

Spurs confirmed on Twitter that their long-serving centre-back will head to Qatar to join Al-Duhail SC after both clubs reached an agreement for his defensive qualities.

It brings an end to a stellar career in North London for the Belgian, who became a firm fan favourite with supporters and one that should have resulted in a trophy or two.

It has been a year since Wanyama departed North London for the MLS, and that team that Mauricio Pochettino built, is slowly being torn apart.

Nonetheless, this is the message Wanyama posted to Alderweireld after it was announced that he is leaving Spurs:

“All the best Toby Alderweireld for your next chapter,” said Wanyama.

Erik Lamela joined Sevilla on Monday and now Alderweireld has followed him out of the exit door the following day.

Danny Rose left after his contract expired this summer, whilst the likes of Wanyama, Mousa Dembele, Christian Eriksen and Kieran Trippier have been other departees in recent seasons.

It has to be questioned whether other names will follow those players out of North London because the club has declined in recent years and a clear out is needed.

There seems to be a clutch of players who Fabio Paratici could part ways with, including Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.

An end of an era is edging closer at Hotspur Way, but the supporters will be hoping Harry Kane joins Heung-Min Son at the club for many more years to come.
