Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has told the Daily Record that he thinks the Celtic fans are amazing, and wants to watch the Bhoys in action on Tuesday.

Wanyama, 25, completed a move to Spurs over the summer as he left Southampton to reunite with his former manager Mauricio Pochettino, and has started each of Tottenham’s four Premier League games so far this term.

The Kenyan powerhouse is gearing up to face Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday, but he’s also had time to discuss former club Celtic and their upcoming European clash.

Celtic have been put in a difficult Champions League group containing Borussia Monchengladbach, Manchester City and Barcelona, with Brendan Rodgers’ men taking on the latter on Tuesday evening.

The Bhoys faced a daunting task at the Camp Nou, and Wanyama experienced the same trip to Catalunya during his time with Celtic, where he made 91 appearances following a move from Germinal Beerschot in 2011.

Ahead of the game, Wanyama has told the Daily Record that he thought the Celtic fans were amazing during his time with the club, and drew particular attention to their support at the Camp Nou, where they were noticeable even in such a huge stadium.

Wanyama added that, after Spurs have finished training for their match against Monaco, he intends to watch Celtic and support his former club.

“I recall asking one of the Barcelona staff where the Celtic fans would be and when they pointed up to the highest part of the stand, up in the sky, I gave up hoping to notice that our fans would be there the next day,” said Wanyama. “But, of course, when it came to match day we could hear them all the way from pre kick-off right through the game. It was amazing, crazy! “

“Both there and at Parkhead when our fans truly were a 12th man it’s vital. When you’re tired or the game’s running away you hear the support and know you have to find more strength more effort. I’d say that by the time the return match came the fans kept us in it. Our fans played a really big role and that’s what they’ll have to do this week in the Camp Nou.”

“On Tuesday, once we’ve trained I’ll try to watch the game. I’ll be cheering for my old club,” he added.
