Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has told the Independent that he was getting frustrated with this season up until the weekend.

Wanyama made just his third start of the season for Tottenham against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, and he scored the opener in Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s 4-0 win.

Wanyama’s last two appearances for Tottenham have been his best for a long time.

And the Kenyan is hoping that he is finally back to his best, after a long struggle with injury problems.

“It’s been a difficult season for me in terms of injuries,” he said. “It was just frustrating, getting behind. It’s difficult trying to get fit and I saw the season is going quickly. I’m glad I’ve put that behind me and now I’m getting stronger and getting back to my best.”

If Wanyama can come back into Pochettino’s thinking for the run-in then it will be a major boost for Tottenham.

The £11 million signing from Southampton back in 2016 (the Guardian) is one of the finest defensive midfielders in the Premier League, when he is fully fit.

Wanyama could now feature for Spurs on Wednesday evening, when they take on Manchester City looking to protect a one-goal advantage.
