Both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur had expressed an interest in the Nigerian wonderkid.

Nigerian wonderkid Victor Osimhen has been discussing his decision to join VfL Wolfsburg, turning down interest from North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the process.

In November 2015 Tottenham were heavily linked with the signature of the young Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. It was reported by Spanish publication AS that the deal was done and that Tottenham had secured the services of this precocious talent.

Osimhen was the star at the recent 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup as his side won the competition. He scored a whopping 10 goals at the competition in just seven appearances – including against Mali in the final.

Arsenal were also credited with an interest in the player, with the player even commenting on their interest to BBC Sport in February.

But he decided to join VfL Wolfsburg instead, in a deal that would come into effect on the 1st January 2017.

Now that deal has been confirmed the now 18-year-old has spoken about his decision to join Wolfsburg and not head to North London, confirming first-team football was at the forefront of his thinking. He told Bild:

“There were many clubs who were interested in me.

“But I chose Wolfsburg because I think it’s the right place to get my career started.

“If I had joined Arsenal, for instance, I would not have made my way into the first team that fast.”

The teenager is undoubtedly a big talent for the future and one that both North London clubs will be disappointed they missed out on.

Hopefully he can become a hit in Germany and, perhaps, he may still find himself in the Premier League yet.
