The Leeds United manager will have the final say about which players arrive at Elland Road this summer.

Leeds United’s director of football Victor Orta has been speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post about the appointment of new manager Thomas Christiansen, and one comment in particular will have been pleasing to Whites supporters.

“It’s stupid to bring in player’s that the head coach doesn’t want,” Orta said. “It’s important the head coach has the final say on players.”

It certainly is, but that has not always been the case at Leeds, with some of the signings under former owner Massimo Cellino raising more than a few eyebrows.

First and foremost there were the numerous signings from Italian football, with only a few proving to be worth the effort.

The loan additions of Edgar Cani and Granddi Ngoyi in particular left fans scratching their heads, and while it was sometimes difficult to keep track of who exactly was in charge of Leeds given the revolving door of managers, it is hard to envisage any of them sanctioning some of the moves that came to fruition.

Christiansen would not have taken the job unless he had certain assurances when it came to transfers, with the final say on potential arrivals always likely to have been high on his agenda.

It is refreshing to hear that new Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has no intention of stepping in when it comes to certain deals, especially when you consider some of the initial transfer rumours that accompanied his takeover.

Christiansen needs players he trusts and it will be interesting to see who he invests in over the next few months, with Leeds just a few savvy additions away from being the real deal when it comes to another promotion push in 2018.
