Leeds United-owned Eunan O’Kane has suffered a major injury.
Eunan O’Kane has been dealt a major blow having suffered a fractured tibia and fibula in just his fourth game for new club Luton Town.
The Leeds United midfielder was sent out on loan to Luton last month having been completely frozen out by Marcelo Bielsa over the summer, with no future at Elland Road.
O’Kane dropped down to League One and was looking to kickstart his career again with Luton, and was making his fourth appearance for the Hatters in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers.
O’Kane came on as a 75th minute substitute, but then suffered a double leg fracture, meaning he was substituted after just 13 minutes at Kenilworth Road.
The Irishman now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with his move away from Elland Road certainly not going to plan for a player Garry Monk signed from Bournemouth in 2016.
O’Kane may not have been the most popular player at Elland Road, but fans have been passing on their messages of support to the 28-year-old – and Victor Orta has followed suit.
Whites director of football Orta has spoken to Leeds’ official website about O’Kane, praising him for his conduct over the summer whilst promising that Leeds will give him the best possible support, whilst stating that Luton’s medical team have been ‘incredible’ with the midfielder as he underwent surgery today.
“Eunan is a very good footballer and person,” said Orta. “He conducted himself superbly this summer and his loan move to Luton gave him the opportunity to show everyone how good he is. Unfortunately injuries happen in football and we will give Eunan the best support possible to help him recover. The support from Luton Town’s medical team has been incredible,” he added.
