As announced on Leeds’s official website, the promoted Premier League club have secured the services of the Spain international central defender from Spanish club Real Sociedad on a four-year contract.
It is quite a coup, as the 27-year-old centre-back came through the Madrid youth academy and was one of the better players in his position in La Liga over the past three seasons.
Orta has spoken highly of the Spaniard, and he has said that the defender is always improving.
Orta told The Yorkshrie Evening Post about Llorente: “One thing I have always detected from him since he was at Real Madrid is that he is always progressing, impressing on loan at Real Vallecano and Malaga and again at an even higher level with Real Sociedad.
“At 27, he is arguably at the perfect performance level to play football. For a defender at this age you know your job, you are not really old or really young and for me this is the perfect for the position of centre-back.”
Is Diego Llorente a good signing for Leeds United?
Llorente is a very good centre-back who is good at playing out from the back and is also brilliantly defensively.
Robin Koch and Liam Cooper are the two senior centre-backs in the current Leeds squad, and the arrival of Llorente will make head coach Marcelo Bielsa’s squad more competitive.
The Whites are aiming to make an impact in the Premier League this season, and Llorente is at the top of his game and will be looking to hit the ground running in England.
