Kemar Roofe has finally started scoring in a Leeds United shirt since Thomas Christiansen took over at Elland Road.
Leeds United may have lost last season’s Championship Golden Boot winner Chris Wood to Burnley but their attacking options arguably look even stronger this season.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga arrived on loan from Bundesliga giants Hamburg in what will be a superb coup if he regains the prolific form of 2013/14. Meanwhile, Caleb Ekuban has joined from Chievo after a prolific season on loan in Albania and youngsters Jay-Roy Gront and Pawel Cibicki bring potential aplenty after rocking up from NEC Nijmegen and Malmo respectively.
And Leeds’ Director of Football, Victor Orta, is more than happy with the club’s new-look forward line.
Hardly raising the Roofe
“We decided in a meeting after the departure of Wood to try and change the situation of Wood for three players,” Orta said a video posted on the official Leeds Twitter account.
“One more [established] player like Lasogga, he has played more than 150 matches in the Bundesliga, and two signings, really good young prospects for now and for the future. This is the reason that we signed Jay-Roy Grot and Pawel Cibicki.
“I think in the end we’ve made a really good attacking line and we’re really happy with the four strikers that we have.”
Intriguingly, however, Orta failed to mention one Kemar Roofe. The attacker joined from Oxford United for £3 million last summer (Yorkshire Evening Post) but toiled in a wide position with only three goals in 49 games. So far this season, however, he has already netted four in six while filling in as a centre-forward – the role Roofe admitted he prefers to play in.
However, the fact that Orta has failed to mention the former West Brom youngster as a potential striking option may come as a blow to a player who appears to have found his feet at Elland Road at last in a position he would love to call his own.
