Victor Orta has said that Leeds United have a quality-over-quantity transfer policy this summer.
The Whites smashed their transfer record in signing £30 million Rodrigo from Valencia a little earlier today.
In doing so, Rodrigo becomes the first senior player that Leeds have signed this summer, following deals for Under-23 players like Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood.
Illan Meslier, who joined United on loan from Lorient last summer, has also signed on a permanent basis, the same as Helder Costa.
Leeds are linked to other high-profile signings, particularly Robin Koch who posted an Instagram photo of himself on board a plane this morning.
But the club’s Director of Football has warned fans of the Elland Road club that there won’t be many new faces gracing Marcelo Bielsa’s squad this summer, stressing that he’s only going to be signing the right players.
Orta told LUTV: “Yes we need to finish the job now. Like I say it’s quality not quantity. Very happy with the situation about the Under-23s, a lot of good work from the recruitment department behind us. It’s true that it’s a strange market. We sort a lot of deals with the Under-23s. We’re building for the future. Our job is quality, not quantity.”
If we’re honest, Leeds probably don’t need quantity, either. They definitely need new players, but with Bielsa at the helm, United could still have a very good season with a few shrewd additions rather than wholesale changes being made to the first XI.
Bielsa’s side kick off their Premier League return with a trip to champions Liverpool on September 12.
