Speaking on the Inside Elland Road Podcast, Graham Smyth has delivered an update on Leeds United’s transfer plans in the January window.
Leeds were never expected to have the busiest window of any Premier League club after spending almost £100 million in the summer, but there could be a bit of business done according to Smyth.
Indeed, the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist says that Victor Orta is poised and ready to move should Marcelo Bielsa ask him to bolster the squad in any areas.
“Mercifully, Leeds United are not expecting a busy one, so it won’t be too torturous,” Smyth said.
“They’re not expecting a great deal at all as it is, but Victor Orta is poised and ready with targets lined up and identified should the need arise, should Marcelo Bielsa come to him and say ‘you know what I need a left-back’ or whatever.
“As it stands, we’re told that Marcelo Bielsa is content with his squad, he’s told us himself that he wasn’t expecting to buy a defender. Interesting he didn’t rule it out, bringing someone in in January, because situations arise and opportunities arise and Victor Orta has a way of working that normally benefits the team.”

It’s intriguing to hear how Leeds are going to operate in the market this month.
We all know that Bielsa likes to give his signings a lot of time to bed in, so any January incomings aren’t likely to have a massive impact on the remainder of Leeds’ season, but something could still be done if Bielsa deems it necessary.
It may be worth keeping one eye on Leeds’ business this month as Orta seems to have thing in the pipeline, but as ever, Bielsa will have his say on whether or not Leeds need new players this month.
