The new director of football at Leeds United has been speaking after his appointment.

Leeds United’s new director of football Victor Orta has been speaking to LUTV about his plans at the club.
The Spaniard enjoyed considerable success at La Liga side Villarreal and later enjoyed spells at Russian club Zenit St Petersburg and Spanish side Elche.
More recently he was on the books at Middlesbrough but he is now tasked with helping Leeds back to the Premier League after far too long out of the big time.
“The goal is to help the team back to its true position in English football,” Orta told LUTV. “We know this is not the Championship.
“In the end we need to create a very good atmosphere with the senior staff and manager by producing enough talent in two ways.
“One way is the scouting, to try and get the best players for our team. Not always are the best players the most expensive players and we need to find very good options. The other way is the academy…which has produced a lot of talent over many years.”
Leeds United’s Ronaldo Vieira came through the youth ranks to excel last season
Orta’s comments about the best players not always being the most expensive could be particularly telling, with Leeds set for a busy summer of transfers. After all, the squad needs reinforcements in a number of key areas as they bid to build on last season’s progress.
While Leeds ultimately fell short in the race for promotion there was much to be pleased with, and with the right signings over the next few months, the Whites could push not only for a top-six finish but for the Championship title.

Orta will know his first job is the get the right manager in to replace the recently departed Garry Monk, and from there it will be all about signing the players on the new boss’s wish list.
Only time will tell how 2018 plays out for Leeds but Orta is definitely saying the right things.
It seems Leeds will continue to promote from within whenever they can and that they will not be held to ransom when it comes to potential purchases, while still ensuring those “very good options” arrive at Elland Road in due course.
