Jamal Blackman has had his Leeds United loan terminated after breaking his leg.

Jamal Blackman #46 of Chelsea warms up before the match against the New York Red Bulls during the International Champions Cup at Red Bull Arena on July 22, 2015 in Harrison, New Jersey.

Leeds United’s Director of Football Victor Orta has confirmed that Jamal Blackman has returned to parent club Chelsea.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper broke his leg while playing for Leeds’ Under-23 side on Friday.

Blackman, who joined the Whites on a season-long loan in the summer, hadn’t yet made his Championship debut for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, only managing two Carabao Cup games.

And it looks like he never will play a league game for Leeds after Orta confirmed that he has returned to West London for his rehab.

“Unfortunately due to the extent of the injury we will have to send Jamal back to Chelsea, which is really disappointing for the club,” he told Leeds’ website.

“Not only is Jamal a really good goalkeeper, but he is also a good person too and he has been an exemplary professional since joining the club.

“He will be missed by everyone at Thorp Arch, we wish him well and everyone hopes to see him back playing again soon.”

Leeds will now be sweating on Bailey Peacock-Farrell and hoping that the Northern Ireland keeper returns from international duty in good nick.

They host Austria in a UEFA Nations League clash tomorrow evening, and injury to Peacock-Farrell – if he plays – would be disastrous for the Elland Road club.

Will Huffer seems the most likely player to deputise for Blackman until Leeds can sign someone else in January.
