Sunderland are currently sat at the rock bottom of the Premier League table.
Victor Anichebe has told the Daily Express that Sunderland manager David Moyes urges his side to stay competitive in matches every week.
Sunderland are currently stuck at rock bottom of the Premier League table, but Anichebe claims that Moyes’ tactics are to deploy a safety first approach.
However, the Black Cats have been so poor and they have been unable to fulfil their manager’s wish on regular occasions.
Sunderland have failed to win any of their last seven matches, with their relegation surely an inevitability now.
And Anichebe said: “The manager [David Moyes] tells us every week to stay in the game but going two down gives you a mountain to climb.”
Sunderland’s latest defeat came against Manchester United, when Moyes’ side’s performance was disappointing.
Sunderland were beaten 3-0 by Jose Mourinho’s men, and rarely threatened during the contest.
The Black Cats have now failed to score for seven matches, with Moyes’ side proving to be very blunt up-front.
Sunderland are now 10 points adrift of safety, and only a miraculous run of form would stop them dropping out of the Premier League.
