Victor Anichebe has noticed a change in manager David Moyes since Sunderland’s 3-2 defeat against Crystal Palace last week, speaking to safc.com.

The striker made his first appearance for the club, coming off the bench, as he continues his return to full fitness after signing for the Black Cats on a free.

Anichebe worked with Moyes at Everton, with the Scot giving him his debut back in 2006, and believes he is seeing more of his old manager after their heartbreaking last minute defeat to Palace.

“This week the gaffer’s not really taken any prisoners”, said Anichebe to safc.com.

“He’s really getting into everybody. I think more so getting back into the way he used to be as well, really hammering into us about shape and defending, really the basics of football.”

The 28-year-old was released by West Brom at the end of last season, and Anichebe will be hoping a reunion with his former manager can get his career going again, starting with a visit from his old club, who they host at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Sunderland have struggled at both ends of the pitch, and it comes as no surprise that Moyes is spending more time working on defensive shape and ensuring they don’t concede any cheap goals like they did against Alan Pardew’s side last time out.

Anichebe will want to be more involved after his substitute appearance against Palace, and the Nigerian could hopefully line up alongside Sunderland’s main man Jermain Defoe, who needs more help up top before he falls under the weight of expectation on his shoulders.
