Sunderland are expected to be active in the January transfer window.
Victor Anichebe has told the Telegraph that Sunderland should look towards the free transfer market in January.
Anichebe, himself, was a free agent in the summer, when David Moyes opted to bring him to the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland have benefited from the faith that Moyes showed in the powerful forward, as Anichebe has helped increase their attacking threat.
The 28-year-old has been a huge threat in recent weeks, as Sunderland have climbed off the bottom of the Premier League table.
The Black Cats are now just one point away from safety, but Anichebe admits that his side may need an injection of quality if they are to get out of trouble.
“If we could get a couple of faces in, that would be a big help,” Anichebe said.
“They don’t have to be big-money signings – there are a lot of people out there who could make an impact. I was free, so was Steven Piennar. There are a lot of free people out there who are itching to prove a point, they’re the type of people who I think could really help change things.”
Sunderland chief executive Martin Bain has already confirmed that Moyes will not have much money to spend in January.
The Black Cats are expected to have to bring players in on loan or on free transfers, when the transfer window reopens.
Moyes has already confirmed that he wants to strengthen at the next available opportunity, as he looks to increase the quality of the squad at the Stadium of Light.
