Sunderland could face one of their former players, Victor Anichebe, this season.

Anichebe, who left Sunderland at the end of his contract two years ago after Mackems fell out of the top flight, has reunited with his former West Bromwich Albion coach Darren Moore at Doncaster Rovers, according to The Free Press.

But Moore has insisted via the above publication that, for now at least, the Nigerian has only joined the League One side for training.

Anichebe is without a club after leaving Beijing Enterprises in 2018 and does fit the experienced striker bill that Moore is said to be trying to sign.

The transfer deadline for League One clubs is 5pm on Monday, although Anichebe can still be signing thereafter as he is already a free agent.

Sunderland visit Doncaster on 29 December and host them at the Stadium of Light on 25 January.

Anichebe scored or made four goals in 19 games for Sunderland, after being signed by his former Everton manager David Moyes.
