Anichebe and Moyes both departed Everton in 2013 but have reunited at Sunderland this season.
Sunderland striker Victor Anichebe has told the Chronicle that he may never have left Everton if David Moyes had remained as manager.
Moyes left the Blues in 2013 when he was offered the chance to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
Anichebe quickly followed him out the exit door as Moyes’ replacement, Roberto Martinez, sold him on to West Bromwich Albion.
The pair have now reunited at the Stadium of Light, with Moyes bringing in his former star to try to bolster their forward line.
It sees the pair reforming that working relationship from their time on Merseyside, something Anichebe admits may not have been broken up in the first place.
“I was set to go abroad after the last season. I saw my contract out at West Brom, and thought I wanted to go abroad,” he told the Chronicle.
“Then the manager got the job at Sunderland. I always wanted to work under him again. If he hadn’t left Everton [in 2013], I probably wouldn’t have left. It is a pleasure to work under him.”
Anichebe will now be hoping that he can put in solid performances this season to help repay Moyes for his faith in him.
He did just that at the weekend, first scoring the equaliser against Bournemouth and then winning the penalty that secured all three points for the Black Cats.
That was their first win of the season and if Anichebe can continue putting in the kind of effort he did against Bournemouth across the campaign, more are likely to follow.
