Flamengo are yet to receive an official proposal for Gerson this summer despite claims that Tottenham Hotspur have had a bid turned down, vice-president Marcos Braz has told OneFootball.
If Spurs were hoping to keep their apparent interest in a treble-winning midfielder quiet, then they won’t have been too happy with Gerson’s father back in May.
Speaking to Yahoo, he claimed that Jose Mourinho’s side, as well as north London rivals Arsenal, had both shown a desire to sign a player who had shone since returning to Brazil last year.
Gerson, the former Roma and Fiorentina enforcer, helped Flamengo win a historic treble in 2019, including their first Copa Libertadores title since the early 1980s.
And, according to Goal, Tottenham went as far as to offer £16 million for his services earlier this month.
Whether those reports were wide of the mark, or whether Braz is merely hoping to distract attention away from a key player’s future, his comments during a press conference this week certainly make for interesting reading.

“I already told you. At no time did we receive a proposal for Gerson,” says a man who sounds sick and tired of all the speculation. “There was absolutely nothing.
“He is a champion athlete, exemplary, very expensive. We have had no proposal.”
There is a chance, of course, that a bid could be made by Tottenham in the coming weeks with Mourinho lacking the kind of drive and dynamism in midfield that Gerson would provide.
The most expensive Brazilian footballer ever to be bought by a Brazilian club, he produced an impressive five goals and eight assists for Fiorentina and Flamengo last season.
