Newcastle United made some stinking signings, and the fans have taken their time to name some of the worst.
Newcastle United have made some brilliant signings over the summer, with Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie helping Rafael Benitez’s side to the top of the Championship.
However, things have not always been so rosy when it comes to arrivals at St James’ Park, with many millions of pounds wasted on players who never lived up to the hype.

HITC Sport’s Michael Ramsay spoke to a selection of Newcastle supporters, asking who they thought the club’s biggest waste of money was, and it’s fair to say they were spoilt for choice.
Club record signing Michael Owen cost Newcastle £17 million back in 2005, and fans are still waiting to see any sort of a return from the former England international, who spent most of his time out injured before leaving the club when they were relegated to the Championship in 2009. Owen joined Manchester United on a free after his contract on Tyneside expired.

Other names include the infamous Xisco, whose disco never really took off at St James’ Park, and is now playing his football in Thailand.
Back in 2013, Newcastle brought Moussa Sissoko to the club for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.8 million. One fan still considered him a waste of money – but couldn’t help but smile when thinking about how much Tottenham Hotspur spent to take the Frenchman off their hands.
