Former Chelsea man Gianluca Vialli believes that the two best teams in Europe have made it to the Champions League final.
Atletico Madrid earned their place in the Champions League final while Chelsea didn’t, according to Gianluca Vialli.
The Spanish side produced a devastating second-half display of counterattacking football to vanquish Jose Mourinho’s side 3-1 and book a date with rivals Real Madrid.
After the final whistle, Mourinho rued an ‘impossible’ save by Atletico goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is on loan from Chelsea, to deny John Terry.
The Special One felt that save followed quickly by Diego Costa’s penalty which put Atletico 2-1 ahead, proved the turning point on the night.
But Vialli, who played for and managed Chelsea, felt Chelsea failed to deliver on the whole and that Atletico earned their place in the final.
“Everyone in the Atletico ranks gives their all for the cause and their energy levels amaze me.
“Chelsea fought but I didn’t see much quality or lucidity. They looked worn out from their recent games and they were far from perfect in defence.”
