Ibrahima Konate has earned all sorts of plaudits from all sorts of pundits this season, but now, WWE superstar Sheamus has expressed his admiration for the Frenchman.

Indeed, the Celtic Warrior was reacting to Liverpool’s run to the Champions League final as a part of a promo for BT Sport, and he had nothing but good things to say about Konate after re-watching his goal against Benfica.

Sheamus may spend most of his time stateside these days, but the Irishman remains a Liverpool supporter, and it’s fair to say he’s been impressed by Konate.

What’s been said?

Sheamus was impressed by Konate.

“A great header by Konate, he’s a great player who is very young, but he’s also a rock in defence, if you watch players try to get by him, he’s just a wall, he’s going to be a great player for years to come for Liverpool hopefully. For me, once that went in there was no way we were going to go out at that stage,” Sheamus said.

“He’s also learning from the best centre-half in the world, van Dijk, so he’s going to get the experience off of him as well.”

Star of the future

Liverpool have undoubtedly the best defender in the world in the shape of Virgil van Dijk, but in Konate, they may well have the best young centre-half on the planet.

At the age of just 22, the Frenchman hasn’t looked out of place in arguably the best team in Europe, and somehow, he’s still yet to lose a game for Liverpool.

Konate has shown this season that he has what it takes to be a top-level star, and the scary thing is, he’s only going to get better.

Sheamus may be a wrestler, but he certainly knows his stuff about football, and Konate is an absolute gem for the Reds.
