Kenny Dalglish has claimed that Arsenal have ‘bought well’ by securing the transfer of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City, as the Anfield legend wrote in his Sunday Post column.

Arsenal paid Manchester City £45 million for the Brazil international (Guardian) and Dalglish added that Jesus has started off life at the club ‘very well’.

From his five games, he has scored seven goals, including netting a hat-trick in front of a packed-out Emirates crowd as they thrashed Sevilla 6-0 in their final pre-season game of the summer.

The platform the 25-year-old has set during these early stages is pretty encouraging, but at the end of the day, those goals count for jack and it’s all about what he does at Crystal Palace now.

Either way, with Jesus heading out of the exit door at the Etihad, a certain Erling Haaland was snapped up by Man City, as Dalglish touched upon those two transfers.

“Man City added Erling Haaland to their squad, and his goalscoring stats as a No. 9 are incredible,” said Dalglish.

“They have lost a few players. And it looks as though Arsenal have bought well by getting in Gabriel Jesus from City. He has started very well at the Gunners.”

CAN ARSENAL OVERCOME PALACE NIGHTMARE?

One of the games that cost Arsenal a top-four finish last time out was their defeat at Crystal Palace towards the back end of the campaign.

Patrick Vieira also recorded a draw at the Emirates during that season, as he currently has the upper hand over the man in Arsenal’s dugout.

Added with that, Palace’s front line is full of flair, speed, skill and outstanding ball-carrying ability, all of which will test Arsenal’s defence.

Fans can dance about pre-season until the sun goes down, but at the end of the day, it’s the opening day that matters most and being ready for that.

And, from a mental standpoint, if they can secure three points on Friday, then maybe broadcasters will stop putting Arsenal forward to kick off the season on a Friday night.
