Darwin Nunez is warming up nicely for a return to Premier League competition with Liverpool.
On Friday, the Uruguay international scored twice in a 4-1 victory over AC Milan in what was a mid-season friendly for the Reds.
Prior to the World Cup, Nunez, who is Liverpool’s record signing at £85 million, had been enduring a hit and miss first season at Anfield.
However, he is getting progressively better and his double against the Serie A champions will have done him no harm whatsoever.
That being said, the South American was among the penalty takers for a post-match shootout.

And although Nunez scored, it was a horrific, nonchalant penalty which could and should’ve been saved.
Former Liverpool attacker Neil Mellor has described it as ‘very, very strange’ while talking to LFC TV after the game.
He told LFC TV: “Nobody takes a pen like Darwin’s. It’s very, very strange. It’s just as bad a pen as it is a save by the keeper, but look sometimes you need a bit of luck.”
With 11 goal involvements in 18 outings across all competitions, it’s been an okay first season for Nunez at Liverpool so far.
But being the Reds’ most expensive player of all time, ‘okay’ simply isn’t good enough.
