Arsenal haven’t yet made a concrete decision on Alexandre Lacazette but, according to one reporter, one will be made ‘very, very soon’.

Lacazette only has one year to run on his Arsenal contract.

Football London reported earlier this month that the Gunners could sign him up to a new one-year extension.

But the former Lyon hitman, a £46.5 million signing in 2017, continues to be linked with a move away from North London.

The 29-year-old netted 17 goals in all competitions under Mikel Arteta this past season, finishing the campaign as the club’s top goalscorer.

And according to Goal.com journalist Charles Watts, Arteta and Edu remain undecided over what to do with the French striker as of yet, but claims a firm decision will be taken over the next fortnight.

He told his YouTube channel: “Lacazette’s future is going to be decided very, very soon. I think we’ll find out very quickly about what’s happening with Alexandre Lacazette. Talks are being held over the next couple of weeks or so with him regarding his new contract, possible new contract, or whether he moves on.”

Should Arsenal keep Lacazette?

Selling your top goalscorer sounds like a harsh and brutal thing to do but really, the fact Lacazette finished top of the pile in that statistic is a much worse reflection on his team-mates – like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – than it is a positive reflection on him.

Seventeen goals is nothing to sniff at but, by the same token, the player turns 30 tomorrow.

Arsenal don’t need to keep both him and Aubameyang due to age and weakening influence in the Premier League.

Arteta absolutely needs a new, younger number nine during the summer and it’s unlikely that Lacazette would settle for being the Spaniard’s third-choice option.
